Full Bio

Kimberly B. Harrison, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist, author, and speaker who believes understanding changes everything. Known as Dr. H., she has spent more than two decades helping individuals and families better understand how they think, learn, behave, communicate, and connect.

As founder of The Conative Group in Houston, Texas, Dr. Harrison has worked with thousands of children, adolescents, adults, and families. Her clinical work has given her a front-row seat to the many ways people experience and navigate the world—and to what can happen when someone finally understands why something has been difficult.

That experience has shaped a career devoted not only to understanding people, but to making psychology understandable.

Dr. H. is known for translating complex psychological concepts into practical ideas and memorable frameworks that people can use in everyday life. Her signature work includes The Control Tower Model™, a way of understanding executive functioning and self-regulation, and Wagon Wheels and Ladders™, a framework for recognizing differences in how people organize ideas, approach problems, and make sense of the world. Her work also explores resilience, communication, relationships, parenting, learning, behavior, ADHD, neurodiversity, and the many ways our differences influence how we understand ourselves and one another.

Dr. Harrison is the author of books for parents, children, and educators, including ADHD: The Comprehensive Parent’s Guide, My Incredible ADHD Brain: Big Ideas, Big Energy, Control Tower Kids: The Case of the Missing Cargo, and Screentime as Dessert. She is also the creator of The Skilled Student Initiative, an executive-functioning framework designed to help schools develop more independent, effective learners.

As a speaker and professional educator, Dr. H. brings the same curiosity and practicality to audiences ranging from parents and educators to clinicians, professional organizations, and broader community groups. Whether she is talking about ADHD, thinking styles, resilience, relationships, communication, or why two people can experience the very same situation so differently, her goal is the same:

to help people understand themselves and one another—

and use that understanding to make everyday life work a little better.
