Where understanding begins.
My work as an author, speaker, and educator is grounded in my work as a clinical psychologist. For decades, I have had the privilege of sitting with children, adolescents, adults, and families as they try to understand something important: how they think, why they struggle, what they do well, and what they need to move forward.
Those conversations—and the stories behind them—are the foundation of everything I do.
Evaluations
More Than a Test Score
Psychological and educational evaluations are an important part of my clinical work. But I have never believed that an evaluation is simply about administering tests or assigning diagnoses.
It is about understanding a person.
Why is a bright child struggling in school? Why can someone focus beautifully on one task and feel completely overwhelmed by another? Why does one child need structure while another needs room to explore? What strengths are getting lost because everyone is focused on what isn't working?
A thoughtful evaluation brings those pieces together—the data, the observations, the history, and, most importantly, the person's story—to create a clearer picture of who they are and how they function.
Consultations
Sometimes Understanding Is the First Intervention
Consultation gives parents, educators, and individuals an opportunity to step back from a problem and look at it differently. My role is often to help connect the dots—to identify patterns, translate complicated psychological concepts, and help people understand what is happening beneath the behavior they see.
That process of turning complexity into understanding has shaped my clinical work and, ultimately, my books, models, presentations, and educational resources.

The Stories Behind the Work
The models and strategies I teach did not begin on a stage or in a book. They grew from years of listening—to children trying to explain experiences they did not yet have words for, to parents trying to understand their children, to teachers trying to reach students who learn differently, and to adults finally making sense of patterns they have carried for years.
Clinical work keeps my writing, teaching, and speaking connected to real people and real life. It reminds me that behind every diagnosis, test score, behavior, and challenge is a person with a story worth understanding.
